KRTR Honolulu HI 650 verification

KRTR was heard with a good signal in Kongsfjord on October 16, 2007, and I decided it was time to make a new attempt to get this station verified. It sometimes takes time to write and send a reception report, though, so my report was not sent until yesterday – by e-mail. And success! Within half an hour I had a nice response from Wayne Maria, Operations Manager at the station. He kindly confirmed my reception of KRTR.

Two messages just arrived; the first one from Dan Mason, Program Director, and the second one from Ian Perry, Chief Engineer. Both working at KKOH in Reno NV. They both confirmed my reception of KKOH. KKOH was heard several times during KONG17, noted by me on October 15, 16 and 17, 2007.

WKNR Cleveland OH 850 verification

To round off yesterday, even one more QSL arrived. Aaron Goldhammer, Assistant Program Director at ESPN 850 WKNR wrote to confirm my reception of that station. Even though KOA more or less “owns” 850 kHz in Kongsfjord along with KICY, it happens from time to time that other signals manage to get through. One of these occasions was on October 16, when WKNR was heard quite well for a short while, and with a clear identification.

KOA Denver CO 850 verification

The first time I heard KOA was during a DXpedition in 1988. And I have heard it numerous times since then. For some reason, though, I cannot remember having reported KOA until recently. Well, I am glad I sent a report after all these years. After a couple of days, a nice and informative e-mail arrived in my inbox, from Jan Chadwell, Chief Engineer at KOA in Denver, CO. Besides confirming my report, Mr. Chadwell tells a little about KOA’s history. He concludes his letter like this: “It will be interesting in the coming years, with IBOC digital in the US and DRM digital in most of Europe, to see the impact on AM MW and SW around the world. Radio listening as we now know it may well become a thing of the past.”
