But the blog wasn't (entirely) dead …

It's a shame, but the no new posts have been published to this blog since February 9 this year. The situation is, I have had my focus on other things than DX-ing for a while.

As we all know; a blog without new content soon becomes a blog without readers. A blog without readers is a dead blog. And who need a dead blog? Nobody.

I began some… Continue reading But the blog wasn't (entirely) dead ...

WFLF Pine Hills FL 540 verification

One of the rarer catches, one could say. "540 WFLA" (WFLF) was heard on October 25, 2008, during a DXpedition to Lista in south-western Norway. A nice e-mail received last week confirmed my reception of the station… Continue reading WFLF Pine Hills FL 540 verification

Verification updates

Well … It is now 2 – TWO – months since my previous update here. Shame on me!

  • WTMJ Milwaukee WI 620
  • WNAM Nenah-Menasha WI 1280

KZZN Littlefield TX 1490 verification

If CJYQ is frequently heard in Scandinavia, KZZN in Littlefield TX is not. I heard KZZN briefly with a clear station ID on October 17, 2004 (KONG10), while another stronger station on the frequency kept silent for a couple of seconds. In an e-mail this evening, Monte Spearman kindly confirmed my reception of KZZN. Thank you, Monte… Continue reading KZZN Littlefield TX 1490 verification

CJYQ St. John's NL 930 verification

CJYQ was the first North American medium wave station that I ever heard. It was in the spring of 1983, and CJYQ was a very frequent guest in our loudspeakers at that time. I sent several reception reports, but I never saw a response from the station.

Things have changed since then. The station is no longer the dominant station on its frequency in our corner of the world, although it… Continue reading CJYQ St. John's NL 930 verification

WNDE Indianapolis IN 1260 verification

In a brief but nice e-mail this evening, GM Rick Green confirmed my October 25, 2006 (KONG15) reception of WNDE. The station was heard just a couple of minutes before I had to turn off my radio receivers to prepare for the return home… Continue reading WNDE Indianapolis IN 1260 verification

KTNQ Los Angeles CA 1020 verification

Third and final verification yesterday arrived right before midnight, our local time. Then an e-mail dropped in from Tom Koza, CE for KTNQ and several other stations. In the e-mail, he kindly confirmed my October 15, 2007 (KONG17) reception of the station, and added some information about the transmitters and antennas in use. Thank you, Tom… Continue reading KTNQ Los Angeles CA 1020 verification

KCCV Overland Park KS 760 verification

And there arrived the second verification for today! While examining some of my SDR-IQ recordings from October 15, 2007 (KONG17) I realized that there was more than one English-speaking station on 760. This was right after midnight, UTC, and I couldn't really think about any possible candidate for the second signal. WJR was there as usual, of course. OK, some minutes later there was a clear ID for KCCV, a… Continue reading KCCV Overland Park KS 760 verification

KBRB Ainsworth NE 1400 verification

Third and final verification yesterday came in late in the evening, and was from a station I nearly had given up. In his e-mail response to my follow-up, Larry Rice, Manager at KBRB in Ainsworth, Nebraska, confirmed my October 18, 2006 reception of the station. KBRB was heard during KONG15. Thank you, Larry… Continue reading KBRB Ainsworth NE 1400 verification
